Neighborhood Studios
No Boundaries
The Amistad Center for Art & Culture hosts the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s Neighborhood Studios program with No Boundaries. Bare Walls, No Boundaries is the multi-media exhibition on view from June through August 2008 at The Amistad Center at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. Through video and other non-traditional media, Bare Walls uses popular culture and other themes to examine how African American identity is defined. Neighborhood Studios apprentices will use the exhibition as inspiration for the production of their own group video, individual photography and possibly other work (i.e. website, etc.) about themes significant or important to their identity as teens. The Amistad Center’s Neighborhood Studio teens will work with Master Artists to create an overall theme, a video and photographic images they’ll be responsible for editing and displaying in an exhibition on view at the Atheneum on First Thursday, August 7, 2008. Apprentices will also create a printed exhibition brochure, an onlineexhibition supplement, and will have the opportunity to interact with some artists presented in the exhibition Bare Walls, No Boundaries! The canvas is bare and there are no boundaries to the teens’ creativity!

TAG
The Amistad Center created TAG in order to provide culture-based educational opportunities for youth and to enrich the cultural lives of all segments of the community in which we are housed. An innovative and exciting look at youth culture in Hartford, I Am Whatever You Say I Am, a video documentary about hip hop culture and skateboarding, was the first project created by TAG. TAG is composed of high school students from the Greater Hartford area who assist the Center to engage their peers while expanding their own knowledge and relationship with the museum, and building their fundamental and creative skills.

The Amistad Center is now accepting applications for TAG. To apply download the application here (PDF). Deadline: August 1, 2008.

If you or someone you know is interested in TAG events, please call 860-838-4133 or e-mail amistadcenter@wadsworthatheneum.org to join the TAG mailing list.

TAG is supported by Lincoln Financial Group.
